Night 1: 20h30 – Take a private coach to Hanoi Railway Station and catch the night train to Lao Cai (soft sleeper with air-conditioning).
Day 1 : Bac Ha (Sunday)
6h00 - Arrive by train in Lao Cai.
Start from Lao Cai at 6h00, you will visit Bac Ha market. This drive takes you approx 3h. Arriving in Bac Ha at 9h30 and the best time to visit the big market with its entire colorful ethnic people such as White and Black Hmong, Phu La, Dao Tuyen who gather here to buy and sell. After visiting this outdoor market you will enjoy your lunch in a restaurant, then the guide will take you for a two-hours hike to Ban Pho village. Overnight in hotel at Bac Ha.
Day 2: Bac Ha – Trung Do village (Monday)
After breakfast, visit the old castle of the former “Hmong King” that was built by the French and the Chinese architects in 1920, before starting a 12km ride to Lung Phin village, home of White Hmong and Phu La people. Have lunch in local restaurant, leaving Bac Ha for Trung Do village- inhabited by Tay ethnic people. You’ll enjoy dinner and the warm hospitality of your Tay hosts during this wonderful home stay experience.
Day 3: Coc Ly market and green river (Tuesdays only)
Coc Ly market is situated in stunning mountains by the Chay River. Every Tuesday morning, the people from the surrounding ethnic villages such as White Hmong, Phu La and Dao Tuyen gather to sell and buy their products. Having explored the market, you will have a short trek to the nearby White Hmong and Black Dao village. From here you can travel by boat down the river and experience the magnificent sight of the beautiful caves and life on the riverbanks.
At around 15h00 you return to the car for the ride back to Lao Cai train station at 17h00.
21h15 - Night train back to Hanoi (soft sleeper with air-conditioning).
Night 4 : 5h00 - Trip ends at Hanoi Railway Station.
